← back to Know Thy RivalsPrivacy Policy
Last updated: October 15, 2026 · Short on purpose.
The one-sentence version: we collect the minimum needed to send you a brief
and take a payment, we never sell your data, and we delete it when you ask.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address — so we can send the brief you paid for.
- Your name or business name — so the greeting is not generic and we know whose
rivals are whose.
- The list of rivals and categories you give us — that is the core of your
account. It tells us what to watch.
- Payment details: not held by us. Our payment processor handles card numbers.
We only see the last four digits, the brand, and whether the charge worked.
- Basic email stats — whether a brief was opened. Nothing else about you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data. Ever. That would end the trust the whole product runs on.
- We do not run advertising trackers on our pages, and we do not embed third-party analytics
cookies.
- We do not use credit scoring or marketing profiles about you.
- We do not ask for a password you also use somewhere else, and we never email you asking for a
password, a code, or card numbers.
Who else touches your data
- Our payment processor, to handle charges and refunds.
- Our email provider, to deliver the brief.
- Our hosting and DNS provider, to keep the site reachable.
- That is the full list. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we do not let any of
them use your data for their own advertising.
About the pages we read
We collect facts from public web pages. We do not log into anyone's account, we
do not paywall-strip anything, and we do not collect personal information about your competitors'
customers. If a public page happens to show a person's name next to a price, we do not report it.
How long we keep things
- While you subscribe: your account details and your rival list.
- After you cancel: billing records for the period the law requires us to keep, and nothing else
that identifies you.
- The saved copies of public pages we cite are kept as evidence of what we reported. They hold
company information, not yours.
Your rights, in practice
Write to hello@knowthyrivals.com from the address on
your account and ask. You can get a copy of what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted. We aim to
act within 30 days, and we usually do it the same week. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and
Virginia residents have these rights by name in their state law; we honor them for everyone.
Children
This is a business product. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and we
have no reason to.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS. Access to our systems is limited to the small number of people who need
it, credentials are stored in secrets files on our own servers, and the brief-generation system is
built so it cannot ship a number that is not backed by a saved page.
If this changes
If we change anything meaningful about how we use your data, we email you before it takes effect,
and the new date appears at the top of this page.
